THE THERAPIST IS IN!
I would like to welcome you to the premier of www.DrSadieSheafe.com. It is our intent to make this site as informative and thought provoking as possible. I ask that you bookmark us or even better, make us your home page. Here at DrSadieSheafe.com our focus is on everyday matters related to your mental and your physical health; as well as issues related to human sexuality. The various news links are updated daily and the editorial columns are updated weekly.
Our objective is to enlighten, inform and empower. Our focus is on issues that affect our everyday life, and at times the message is presented in a very humorous vein. I firmly believe that not all therapy has to be presented with a stiff upper lip. On that note, I am exceptionally grateful to all of the following contributing writers.
First, at “Just Ask Dr. Sadie Sheafe” I will answer your questions about relationships, human sexuality, and issues that we face in our everyday lives. My experience is based on my over 20 years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples, families, groups and the community at large.
“The Therapist Is In” is presented weekly. This is an opportunity for me to share the knowledge that I have acquired. This column will tackle issues that address social injustice, barriers, inequities and injustices that exist in society; and promoting those issues that endorse positive social change and human rights. My ultimate goal is to share information that will enable us all to develop our full potential, enrich our lives, and prevent dysfunction. Although this may sound rather lofty to some, other social scientists, activists and clergy have embraced the same or similar challenges. I am an activist for empowering and educating the multi-cultural community toward problem solving. I, like many of you, have had enough of merely speaking to the problems we all face. I am ready to further lend my efforts to solving them. I look forward to your comments and feedback as I share my insight. Welcome to my journey…attempting to build better tomorrows for us all through empowering communication today.
“Clutterman’s Uncluttered Corner” is written by an educator, advisor, therapist, and administrator and all around nice guy, however, in his own words, “…an admitted Packrat and hoarder of ‘stuff.’” Fortunately for us, a lot of what was horded throughout the years is knowledge. We are looking forward to his weekly tidbits of insight.
Simply put, “Sista’ Mean” says what she means and means what she says. She’s definitely a no nonsense type of woman. I think I can safely surmise that we can anticipate her contribution to be, ahhh, shall we say, forthright and honest with pearls of perspicacity. In her words, Sista’ Mean is everywoman. She’s a sassy, classy, spunky, funky, politically incorrect, been-there, done-that, burned-the-book, wise-crackin’, God-fearin’ Diva.
Melissa Harrell, MSCJ, BSCJ, offers her contribution and insight in their field of Criminology. Her column is entitled “Weighing In On Justice.” Melissa Harrell holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Criminal Justice with emphasis on corrections and law enforcement and is currently pursuing a terminal degree in Information Studies with a focus on the information needs and behaviors of incarcerated juveniles.
Another brilliant and very opinionated contributor is Mr. Anthony Middleton, BS His column, “Anthony – Down and Under” will be thought provoking, heart warming and always candid. Anthony is just a simple intellectual with strong Southern roots. I am very proud to welcome him here to DrSadieSheafe.Com. His first editorial on why he chose to become a counselor is heartwarming and honest and brought back many personal memories. I recommend that you Read it now and I’m sure you too will agree.
“Your Mental Health” By Donald W. Doherty, MA, Ed.S. Will be a weekly primer devoted to mental health issues and coping with the world at large. Expect to see up-to-date information related to stress management, addiction, compassion fatigue, positive thinking, spirituality, meditation and tips on keeping your sanity in our sometimes crazy world. Don is an Education Specialist and has over 26 years experience in mental health, chemical dependency, training and education.
I am much honored to have Dr. Ivor Purchas, MD as a contributing writer. His column is entitled, “An Apple A Day” Dr. Ivor Purchas, a native Jamaican, but now a citizen of this country, studied at Howard University where he achieved his B.S. degree, and four years later his M.D. degree . He is a Phi Beta Kappa, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honors recipient. He continued his academic and professional quests by completing his residency in General Surgery at Howard University Hospital and is Board certified by the American Board of General Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgery.
Dr. Ivor Purchas is a Physician and Surgeon who is married for 34 years with four children and currently resides in the Tidewater area of Virginia where he practiced General Surgery for 21 years in the private sector. At this time, he has diversified within the field of Medicine and Business as he practices General Surgery at a local hospital serving Veterans primarily as a staff Surgeon, is active in Addiction Medicine and pursues strong interest in Preventative Medicine particularly in Health, Wellness and Nutrition. His goal in this column will be to continue to carry out the primary dream of his recently deceased centurion mother, Ivy Purchas, who left the charge to him to "do all the good you can to all the people you can for as long as you can". She always quick to add “but always remember that self preservation is the first rule of nature". So, in a nutshell his goal is to do good to you by sharing "an apple a day" that should "keep the doctor away", that is help to keep you well and in great health.
“Doc On Call” By, Dr. Maninder Singh, MD. Dr. Singh is Board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. Areas of interest are addiction psychiatry, depression and women issues. Will tackle myths and beliefs about mental illness, how culture defines attitudes and beliefs. The column will also address everyday issues regarding parenting and the issues faced by children today in a multicultural society
I have many new and exciting additions planned in the New Year. Among them, a chat room, online lectures and video presentations. In addition, I am currently developing a coast-to-coast syndicated radio talk show that will be simulcast on this Internet portal.
Of course, the most important part of this website is the feedback section. Simply put, without you, there are no us.
