WEIGHING IN ON JUSTICE

INTRODUCTION

In writing this column I include reporting of important juvenile criminal justice events coupled with my opinions, leaning more to the latter of these two. I strive to adhere to copyright issues, both mine and others, so I hope others will comply as well. Juveniles reside in the heart of criminal justice and provide a wealth of opportunities for changing their future and our future simultaneously. I never cease to be amazed at the life altering situations in which juveniles find themselves and the impromptu decisions they must make, no wonder they often make the wrong choice as they are ill equipped with the knowledge and information to make good decisions. Children need advocates to understand their situations and to serve as advocates for bettering the quality of their lives. Through this column I strive to share knowledge of the involvement of juveniles in the criminal justice system, the challenges they face both before and after entering the system and seek ways to help them transition back as productive citizens with bright futures.
